Governor Says Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Will Be Used 'Quickly' in Florida

BROOKSVILLE -- Staffers at the Federal Food and Drug Administration say the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine is safe and effective against the coronavirus, and they're endorsing it for emergency use. The vaccine is said to be about 66% effective in preventing moderate to severe cases of COVID-19----a little less than the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. But Gov. DeSantis says it's been shown to prevent *all* hospitalizations and deaths, and he says that's a "win."

"No one wants to get infected with anything, but if you get infected and... you move on, that's a 'win' given that this is something that can obviously be more threatening to people," DeSantis said.

He says the state is still working through how to utilize the J&J vaccine. "We are going to use it... perhaps in pharmacies, perhaps with doctors' offices, we're going through those right now."

The governor spoke at a senior community in Brooksville, where he announced that Hernando County would be getting more than 2200 additional doses of COVID vaccine.
