Florida Has A COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, But Details May Change

Healthcare professionals, essential workers, those considered high risk and adults 65 and older will be the first group of Floridians to be vaccinated once a COVID-19 vaccine is approved.

U.S. health officials are hopeful that could happen by the end of the year.

The state's COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan is thorough, but fluid.

The plan doesn't have details on how the state will keep track of people who are vaccinated. According to the plan, state health officials are awaiting word from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The biggest challenge is still storing the vaccine, which has to be stored at below-freezing temperatures.

Using surveys, state health officials are trying to figure out what storage capacity is available at hospitals, pharmacies and EMS facilities.

Florida is currently enrolling licensed providers that can administer the vaccine. There are more than 1.3 million certified healthcare professionals in the state. It's unclear if they will need COVID-19 specific training since guidance has yet to come down from the CDC.
