Black Lives Matter Backdrop Questioned at Pinellas Commission

CLEARWATER -- A Pinellas County commissioner's use of a backdrop depicting a street painting of the words "Black Lives Matter" became a topic of discussion during Tuesday's virtual commission meeting.

During recent meetings, Commissioner Kenneth Welch has used the backdrop while participating... making it visible each time he speaks. Fellow Commissioner Kathleen Peters said Welch should not be able to display the BLM artwork and wants a rule on what commissioners have as their virtual sets during online sessions.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman came to Welch's defense, calling her politics "out of step" with Pinellas and her stance "unbelievable."
