There may be a slight taste or smell of chlorine in the West Palm Beach drinking water this week, but city officials say the levels are safe for normal consumption.
Utilities officials are flushing the entire pipe system with chlorine, a process that could take three weeks.
The change in chlorine can affect fish kept in tanks and people receiving dialysis treatments. In situations like those, the city recommends consulting a professional. Otherwise, running your water through a filter or simply letting it sit out after it's poured to allow the chlorine to dissipate will do.
The city says this is a necessary annual treatment because of the aging infrastructure.
