Palm Beach County Votes This Week On Controversial Tower Proposal

Communications Tower

The Palm Beach County Commission will vote this week on the proposal to construct a communication tower at the Boca Raton Municipal Golf Course.

The Boca City Council has already given approval to the project that has a lot of detractors, including Dan Cohen.

"Why are you going to spend upwards of $3 million when your needs could be met by a 200 foot tower at a lot less cost?"

He's president of the Sunshine Wireless Company, which owns land that he's offered the city to build a tower on.

The county will be voting on a 400 foot tower, but Cohen says it goes against a county rule that regulates how many tall towers may be within a certain distance of each other.

"There already are two towers that, if they build this tower, will be 700 feet from one tower and maybe a thousand feet from the other tower."

The city says the tower is needed because of new housing that's being built in the West Boca area.

Meanwhile Cohen says property values for existing homes nearby will be brought down by a 40-story tower.

He wants concerned residents to show up at the County Commission chambers Thursday.
