Prince's 'Purple Rain' Wins Top Soundtrack At AMAs, Sister's Acceptance Speech Makes Us Cry

Prince is still reigning supreme, posthumously. At the 2016 American Music Awards, the late icon won the Top Soundtrack award for his album Purple Rain, which served as the soundtrack for the same-titled movie that he starred over 30 years ago.

Prince's closest surviving sister, Tyka Nelson, accepted the honor on her brother's behalf. But, not without saying an emotional acceptance speech that reminded the world just how incredible Prince was. He was a game-changer, and she made sure that we didn't forget that.

"Prince defied the odds, a black teen from Minneapolis with a goal to electrify the world, he had the courage to be different. With his vision and god given talent, he is still one of the world's most respected and loved artists," Nelson said in her speech.

"What he told me is he wanted to be known as the world's most prolific songwriter. And with 984 titles to his credit and counting, he has done just that," she continued, to uproarious applause. "In the words of Prince, with love, honor and respect for every little thing in the universe, separation ceases and we all become one being singing one song."

Then, she closed -- as her voice began shaking and she was seconds away from crying: "I humbly accept this award. And me, my other Omarr, my brother Alfred, my sister Sharon, my sister Norrine, and my bother Duane, we'll keep this for you in Paisley Park. Until we see you again, this is for you."

Rest in paradise, legend.
